In this study, the corner of a workpiece made of cemented carbide was polished by a two-step method using two tools. In the first step, the magnetic-field assisted polishing method was carried out using a mixture of high-speed steel, diamond, and new hydrophilic flexible bonds. The equipment allows the workpiece to move freely in two-dimensions. In the second step, to obtain a complete corner finish, the micro-vibrating tool, which employs an electromagnetic coil and electromagnetic fields, was used for polishing. The tool has a geometrical shape similar to that of the polishing surface. Of the four materials (plastic, cold die steel, copper tungsten and cemented carbide) compared in this study, the polishing time using the cemented carbide tool was faster than that using other tools for attaining the same surface roughness, due to the hardness of the cemented carbide.
