This paper reports the experimental result of the machining characteristics of some tool path generation manners and shapes of machining region in ball end milling with a small-sized cutter. The machining characteristics adopted are the width of flank wear, its increasing ratio, machining time and machined surface roughness. The reciprocating paths showed the advantage of shorter machining time compared with that by the spiral path in the square machining region. Other remarks on the machining characteristics and the conclusion are mentioned.
