It is often reported that machining of 12%Cr steel could be difficult and optimum setting of cutting conditions, such as cutting speed, feed and depth of cut, is critical for its industrial application. 3%Co-12%Cr heat-resistant stainless steel is one of the 12%Cr steels used for critical parts in ultra super critical power plant. The main objective of this study is to explore the machinability of 3%Co-12%Cr in milling operations. The effects of tool geometry, cutting speed, feed on surface finish and tool life will be investigated with experiments.
