This paper aims to explore Development Education in the U.K. based upon some trends in Japan. In the first chapter, I clarify the historical practices, and practical issues of development education at schools in Japan today. Also, I pay attention to international understanding for education, and other educational themes, such as global education, multicultural education, and so on. In the second chapter, I clarify some trends in development education that have appeared since the World Education Forum held in Thailand in 1990. In the third chapter, I clarify development education in the U.K. by dealing with citizenship education. Citizenship education is now one of the important subjects in the National Curriculum in the U.K. introduced in 2002. It is closely related to development education. In the fourth chapter, I clarify some current practices of development education in the U.K. that were discussed at a workshop held at St. John College in York in 2004. I pick up two activities in YREN and LDEC as case studies.
