This paper presents aero-engine technology development and transfer to the next generation. First, a brief description is provided on aero-engine development histories. Secondly, the trend of customer needs and requirements for aero-engines are presented such as efficiency, reliability, and environmental compatibility. Technology improvements make it possible to design and develop new expected engines. Thirdly, technology transfer process is presented. Aero-engines consist of many components with individual technologies. Then specialists are required for each technology area to improve and maintain higher technology level. Design engineers integrate component technologies. Engineering transfer could be achieved through actual engine development experiences. Transfer process is supported by, knowledge databases such as design practices, lessons learned and so on. Design review boards by senior engineers are also effective to hand down individual engineering experiences to the next generation.
