"Restructuring" usually implies a change in business structure in companies suffering from structural recession or low growth over a long period of time. But with Japan facing turmoil in the overseas and domestic environment today, every industry is required to come up with new business strategies. A popular measure in industrial restructuring in the U. S. A. is to adopt a M & A strategy. However, due to Japan's business climate and its historical and institutional background, a more appropriate strategy of expansion through repletion of its own resources is adopted. With the future maturity of the market and globalization, the conditions for corporate survival are becoming more stringent. Yet measures for differentiation by mass production through the use of information technology and close cooperation among organizations as established by Japanese industry are its strong points. These can be strong points in globalization as well. Furthermore, in the long-term future prospects even the information industry has the possibility of changing the map of world industry, so that the situation requires a mature approach by management.
