This paper analyzes the international strategies of Japanese corpotarions in the aspect of the leadership of top management. The research method was to directly interview twelve top leaders of international operations (at the president or senior managing director level) of as many typical multinational corporations in Japan, including Shinetsu Chemical Company, Nippon Electric Corporation, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, Canon Inc., YKK Corporation, Honda Motor Corporation, Calsonic Corporation, Ajinomoto Corporation, Asahi Glass Company, Kikkoman Corporation, Yaohan Corporation and Hosokawa Micron Corporation. Each interviewee was asked about the motives of his company's overseas operations, its vision of internationalization, his own international experience and entrepreneurship. The specific topics of this report are (1) the vision and idea of internationalization, (2) the top leader's life abroad as his fundamental experience, (3) his entrepreneurship and (4) problems in Japanese companies' globalization and leadership, which were common aspects perceived by the twelve interviewees.
