"Rangyoku-Zoroe" and "Michiyuki-Zukushi" are two books of "Danmonoshu" (the collection of especially melodious parts of Joruri plays) with marginal notes, published by Hachimonji-Ya Hachizaemon in 1681. Both of them are composed of popular parts of plays performed by Uji-Kaganojo. These books were two early parts of "Danmonoshu" and all pages of them were printed with new woodblocks. The purpose of this paper is to show that these books are remarkable in Joruri history from the point of view of the style, the producer, and marginal notes in them. The characteristics of these two books are as follows: 1. These books have more than 200 marginal notes, which we seldom find in Joruri books. Usually Joruri fans enjoyed Joruri by actually performing them, but the marginal notes enabled them to read Joruri as text and help them to comprehend the context of it. 2. It is likely that these books were not produced by Kaganojo himself, but by Hachimonji-Ya without advice from Kaganojo. While Hachimonji-Ya was one of the most famous publishers in Kyoto throughout the Edo era, these two books are the only "Danmonoshu" that he published. 3. The marginal notes are partially rough but tell us that materials of Kaganojo's Joruri were selected from "Ise-Monogatari" and "Tsurezure-Gusa". Probably Hachimonji-Ya sought new types of "Danmonoshu" that were more amusing for Joruri fans. For the new idea, he attached to texts both tunes and marginal notes, but there is no "Danmonoshu" with marginal notes after them. Hachimonji-Ya failed to establish such styles of "Danmonoshu" as a result.
