Albee has been linked with European dramatists of the absurd. It is true that he is fully aware of their theatrical vision and indeed he has adopted their method and style. But it is noticeable that he has been preoccupied with illusions that screen man from reality. He is not concerned with the absurdity of reality but rather the absurdity of illusion. To him, absurdity derives not from the human situation itself, but from man's false response to that situation. Albee's protagonists come to understand that genuine existence comes only through the acceptance of reality and the establishment of a true relationship between individuals. Albee tries to transcend the absurdist vision, adding a moral dimension to it. In this sense, his theatrical world is parallel to the medieval Morality Play. I analysed The Zoo Story from this point of view.
