There are two types of method to write a servo signal with a high speed in a perpendicular magnetic recording medium by magnetic duplication, which are the bit printing (BP) and the edge printing (EP). In this study, the influence of spacing between a master and a slave media on duplication characteristics in both BP and EP has been investigated by using the three-dimensional finite-element method. The results show that duplication characteristic in each method is deteriorated in large spacing. Also, in smaller spacing case, the influence in BP is stronger than that of EP.
