This report is concerned with the examination of farm-houses in the mountinous villages at Nozumi and Onagatani valley, which lie among northern part at the Hida mountinous area. We examined 17 houses in these villages, to be built from late 17th. C. to 19th. C. These houses are able to be divided in three groups with style. The first group of these houses have some special feature as follows. 1) The plan is Hiroma type. 2) The entrance of Hiroma (living room) is Dengiguchi, which is opened front of Hiroma. 3) The floor is not boarding floor but Doza, to lay straw about 10cm depth on the earth and covered them with straw-mats. The second group have the transitional style from first group to third group. The special feature of third group is as follows. 1) The plan is Yotsuma type. 2) A narrow earth-floor to be called Tovi lies between Umaya (stable) and Hiroma. 3) The floor is boarding-floor.[figure]
