An accurate understanding of variations in the electromyogram (EMG) activity resulting from muscular fatigue is required for the study of fatigue produced by human action in daily life and by physical training, and for the design of prosthesis taking EMG into account. In this paper, by use of EMG, a method is presented for dealing quantatively with fatigue, which is generated while a subject maintains his forearm at known angles to his upper arm under a load applied to his wrist. The correlation is considered between the time variation of EMG, which is recorded during the continuous isometric contraction, and the muscular fatigue. It is found that EMC increases exponentially with time. The same measurements are made for different rest times and different loads, and then their results are compared with one a nother. Analogue simulation is made by use of a muscular control system model, which is constructed by taking account of muscular fatigue. The results indicate that the phenomena of varrations in the EMG activity accompanied by muscular fatigue are reproducible, and that the system model presented is sufficient for practical use.
