The interrupting characteristics and capability of the interrupter with low parallel resistance were studied. In the simulation using Cassie and Mayr switching model, the arc power loss requiring in the low parallel resistance circuit interruption is to be less than 10% of that in the circuit without parallel resistance. The results show the application of the fitting parallel resistance is quite useful for reduction of operating power of the interrupter such as plain break operation. The transition of arc time constant on the basis of experimental data was applied for the interrupting simulation.
