The "theory of mind" is assumed to have considerable influence on our "irrationality" in social situations-reciprocity, equality, and anger. This study concerned developmental influence on bargaining behavior in children with pervasive developmental disorders (PDD). Seventy-eight children (age6-18) with PDD were assessed regarding their distribution preferences, and then played three types of bargaining games: a trust game, a dictator game, and an ultimatum game. The results showed that children over 5th grade (age 10 or over) were significantly more cooperative in a trust game, and offered larger points in a dictator game than younger children. On the other hand, of all grades children in 5th grade showed the highest refusal to equal distribution. These ambivalent characteristics in children around 10 years old were construed to correspond with the empirical observation of doctors and clinical members.
