Small and medium- sized subcontract companies in big business groups, which were "cultured" under the name of efficient production by big business groups throughout pre-war and post-war period, are now being forced to leave their business groups. Is it possible for them to be independent? Even if we reviewed contents of the preceding studies on small and medium-sized subcontract companies, we could scarcely find any study of this kind. This is to study the potentiality of independence of small and medium-sized companies in big business groups, which were generated under special circumstances, considering the latest government policies on small and medium-sized companies in Japan.
