In Restoration England there was a change in the publication and printing of books; it was a time when more and more English people began reading books and consequently more printed materials were produced than before. Publishers began inserting advertisements at the bookends showing what they were selling and what was in the press. The lists presumably reflected what the publishers wanted to sell as well as what the readers might have been interested in. This study examines two booklists of a Restoration publisher Richard Chiswell. Chiswell was one of the most prominent booksellers of the day and the books he published covered a wide range of subjects. Through examination of Chiswell's booklists, we can gain insight into the demands of his readers and the relationship between books and society in Restoration England.
