Manchester, like other major cities in U.K., has put various plans for the city's regeneration into practice after the long depression in the 1970s and 80s. Throughout the process, Manchester has changed its status from that of an industrial city to a cultural one, enhancing the city's cultural heritages. The research by industrial archaeologists has led to the saving and opening to the public of the sites for contemporary uses. In addition to the physical regeneration, the city has been developing 'young' and 'alternative' culture. These various aspects have led Manchester to be a dynamic, creative, and 'cool' city. This paper will examine the process of urban regeneration in Manchester.
