• Mountain tunnel technology has been developed with the improvement of tunnel support system. Since the inception of modernization, some kinds of tunnel support systems, such as Wooden Support System, Steel Support System, and Shotcrete-Rockbolt Support System, have been developed and various kinds of excavation method have been adopted according to the support system. At present, Shotcrete-Rockbolt Support System, which has been introduced about two decades ago and become the dominating support system, has extended its applicability to tunnels under various conditions, such as tunnel with large section, urban tunnel and tunnel excavated in bad geology condition with the improvement of productivity. And new trials, such as parallel work machine system (TWS) and full face cutting using TBM, have been carried.
