10.Non-Linear Vibration of Two Story Buildings

General formulas representing the non-linear response features of two story buildings subjected to stationary oscillating force or to ground motion are presented. The averaging method of Ritz was used for the analysis, considering the building as a system of two degrees of freedom. The restoring force is of the softening type with negative cubic terms, and viscous damping proportional to the relative velocity of deformation is considered. The response and backbone curves for the undamped systems based on the numerical values of an actual building are mainly computed, since the computations for the damped systems are very long.
