A new architectural style which was imported from China during Kamakura era was accompanied by Zen sect. However, there have been two hypotheses about the precise date of its import; one presumes that it was imported when Kennin-ji was erected while the other presumes it was when Kencho-ji was erected which was 60 years later than the former. The individual studies of architectural histories of "Five Temples" both in Kyoto and Kamakura revealed that the import of Zen-style architecture had been achieved by several times since the erection of Kennin-ji, and an architectural style which is now called Kara-style was established about when Kencho-ji was erected.
