During the past ten years, what was demanded of lighting designers has changed. In the past, designing of lighting equipment possessing distribution of luminous intensity performance adequate to building illumination was required and a greater part of the efforts in designing lighting equipment was exerted in this connection. However, at present, with substantial lighting equipment on the market, the contents of the design concept are subject to strict scrutiny. Together with the advent of a slow economic growth period, aggravation of environmental problems, and the aging of the population, lighting designers will be required to contrive concepts from a multilateral viewpoint.
