Learners' Evaluation of a Method to Improve Writing Competence

In order to improve learners' writing competence, two approaches, that is, the process approach and product approach, are well-known. In this paper, however, another approach, the genre approach is introduced. Essay writing based on this approach is conducted in our technical college and the usefulness of the writing class is analyzed. For the analysis, questionnaires were employed. Learners' response can be regarded as positive to the method, because the approach facilitated writing by giving learners the framework within which they could describe their opinions. The effectiveness of teaching methods based on this approach may not end in class activities. After deepening their understanding of this approach, it can be expected that learners will apply it to other genres.
