The purpose of this study is to find influences of gender-equal policy on Japanese companies, and argue what kinds of improvements should be needed for Gender-equal Society in Japan. We use a case study of 30 Japanese companies in 2001-2002. We had 2 findings. The first is that, gender-equal policy had power to let Japanese companies examine gender role in companies. Some companies have improved the way women build their careers. The second is that some companies consider gender-equal policy as human resource management for men and women without consideration of family responsibilities. This action may not be a contribution to Family Resource Management in Home Economics. The reason is that Home Economics aims at quality of life for individuals and their families in paid work and unpaid work. Now this study suggests a strategy to guarantee life, living, and life-course of employees, including men and women, and a collaboration of companies and government especially in child-care.
