This paper develops a guaranteed accuracy algorithm to compute a sub-optimal controller for the single-input-single-output (SISO) H_∞ loop-shaping synthesis problem. Given the transfer function, with coefficients in rationals, of a plant to be controlled, the algorithm computes, in a manner which guarantees accuracy, the optimal performance level and the coefficients of a particular sub-optimal controller. The method employs polynomial spectral factorization to avoid solving a Riccati equation directly. Also the algorithm makes use of special structures of the solution of a Lyapunov equation and the transfer function of the sub-optimal controller to be computed and thus reduces the computation cost. The algorithm is illustrated on numerical examples.
