Little is known about Filariae Dipetalonema viteae's host-parasite relationship. However, the following results were obtained in the study- of parasitic relation between tick, Ornithodoros moubata and jird, Meriones unguiculatus conducted for the establishment of life span of Filariae D. viteae. 1) The capitular anatomical structure of O. moubata was morphologically demonstrated by scanning electron microscopy. 2) The optimum ratio of infected microfilariae (abbreviated to Mf) distribution in 0.02ml of jird blood is 300 Mf and in this case the life of blood sucking O. moubata is longest. 3) The Mf concentration is highest in the superficial peripheral vein of the infected jirds. 4) The parasitic localization of adult D. viteae is abdomen, thorax. inguinal region, hypoderm and others. The recovery rate of adult D. viteae is 14.0%. 5) The mean body length of female and male D. viteae adults is 4.4 and 2.7 cm, respectively. 6) The appearance of Mf in peripheral blood was specifically confirmed between the 59th to 99th day after implanting infective larvae into the normal jirds. 7) Both larvae and Mf in vitro survivals for long term cultivation were affected by kind of concentration of serum used such as bovine, calf or jird serum. 8) The longest survival larvae were obtained by the supplementation of calf or jird serum and that of Mf bovine, calf of jird serum for in vi tro short term cultivation. The above-mentioned results demonstrate Filariae D. viteae is one of the most useful models for the study of human filariasis. It is suggested that this method is useful to study morphology, physiology, behavior, metabolism and other aspects such as the development of screening test for anti-parasitic drugs, chemo-therapy, preparation of antigens for immunological diagnosis, preparation of vaccines for preventive medicine and so on.
