Soil classification into recently standardized soil groups was carried out over the entire area of Osaka Prefecture and the distributions and productivities of each group were discussed. In the prefectural area, nine great soil groups were found: Regosols, Andosols, Brown Forest Soils, Red and Yellow Soils, Gray Upland Soils, Brown Lowland Soils, Gray Lowland Soils, Gley Soils and Rock Land. These were further classified in twenty-two sub soil groups (Dojo-Togun). Exposition of characteristics of the above soil groups was presented, and their distributions and productivities were described separately in forest land soils and agricultural land soils. Then details of distributions were shown for the five main areas of the prefecture. Compiled soil maps and distribution data of major soil groups for each administrative division were also presented.
