(1) Studies on development in vitro of excised ovaries in the sibmate of Brassica campestris L. ssp. chinensis (L.) Makino cv. Seppaku-taina and in the sibmate of autotetraploid Brassica campestris L. ssp. pekinensis (Lour.) Olsson cv. Nozaki-hakusai were carried out. Development in vitro of excised ovaries from one day to ten days after pollination was studied. (2) Studies on development in vitro of excised ovaries in the sibmate of various Brassica campestris were carried out. Development in vitro of excised ovaries at four days after pollination was studied in ten cultivars. Following results were obtained. (3) Viable seeds were obtained from culture in vitro of excised ovaries at one day after pollination in both sibmates of diploid Seppaku-taina and autotetraploid Nozaki-hakusai. (4) Seed set in the capsules became high gradually as ovaries were cultured at later days after pollination in both sibmates of diploid Seppaku-taina and autotetraploid Nozaki-hakusai. (5) Seed set in the capsules was always better in diploid Seppaku-taina than in autotetraploid Nozaki-hakusai. (6) Seed set in the capsules was different in culture in vitro of excised ovaries in various cultivars of Brassica campestris which have different morphological characteristics.
