1. A special wear-test machine was designed and the wear tests were performed with it in the laboratory. 2. The tines used in the laboratory test were selected on the market and set on the tine shaft which revolved in the soil tank. 3. The number of revolution of tine shaft varied from 290 to 690 r.p.m. and the tines ran for twenty hours and the wear amounts were measured every five hours. 4. The higher is the revolution, the more increase the wear amount after about twenty hours' running; all the tines wore away so much that they can hardly be used. 5. In the field test, two tines were tested, the one is the ordinary tine and the other is the flat knife tine so-called "Nata Tsume". 6. These two kinds of tines were set on two power tillers, which carried sixteen pieces of both tines and were operated in the field for fifteen hours. 7. In these investigations, the wear amounts were measured as to weight, length, width and thickness of the tines, and also the hardness and the chemical components of the tines were measured. 8. In the laboratory test, the tines on the market wore away so much that they can not be used after twenty hours' running. 9. In the field test, the flat knife tine wore away much more than the ordinary tine and both tines can not be used after fifteen hours' running.
