• The Fire Service Law has become performance based regulation in 2004. The Building Standard Law and the Fire Service Law that secure building fire safety in Japan, have become performance based codes, which has established an institutional base that enables us to design more reasonably buildings by means of linkage of both laws. Realization of such design requires researches on performance evaluation methods, in addition, sufficient discussion and investigation concerning trade-off, and study on verification tools, in the viewpoint of fail-safe system for the purpose of avoiding lowering required fire safety.
