Emerson's basic strategy for dealing with the world around him is to ignore its physical features and only focus on the extreme spiritual aspect. In this sense, nature as "things" that exist is completely eliminated. Its method is applied to consider human beings. In Representative Men, for example, Emerson reduces human beings to the symbolic existence of the spiritual meanings and he only considers human beings in relation to the spirit; in short, human beings that exist are also eliminated. When his way of interpreting the world is examined in contrast to Walt Whitman, his contemporay poet, its extremeness is even more clarified.
