In this work, the desilicification of bamboo black liquor by the addition of sulphuric acid has been studied. The results are summarized as follows. (1) In the pH ranges from 12.3 to 8.9 which investigated in this experiment, the pH value of black liquor was lowered in proportion to the amounts of sulphuric acid added. (2) In pH 10.1, 77.9 per cent of silica in the original black liquor was removed, and the silica content in the black liquor was 1.1g/l. In pH 9.3, 90.0 per cent of silica was removed and the silica content was 0.5g/l. (3) In pH 10.1, 7.8 per cent of organic matter was precipitated and lost, and in pH 9.3, 10.4 per cent was lost. (4) The optimum pH value on the removal of silica by lowering the pH value with sulphuric acid was in the range of 10.1 to 9.3.
