Influence of the Treatment with Maleic Hydrazide on the Seed Stalk Development in Rape

Rape plants were treated with diluted MH solution at the several stages of growth. In the germinated seed which had been applied with MH solution during low temperature treatment, and in the plants at the age of appearance of cotyledon or expanding of 2nd leaf which had been sprayed with MH solution during low temperature induction, bolting was remarkably inhibited. At the more advanced stage of plant growth, acceleration of bolting and flowering occurred in several varieties only when MH had been applied during natural cold induction. This may imply that the MH treatment during low temperature induction promotes the effect of low temperature. The translation into English was made by S. FUJII, one of the authers.
