This paper descrides an systematic investigation of the usefulness of the micro-wave oven for water content determination. Eighteen mixtures consisting of three types of clay (bentonite, Kaolin, marine clay) and Toyoura standard sand were used. The minimum amount of soil required for water content determination and the minimum time required for the complete drying were investigated. As a result, 10g and 10min. were obtained. Also, regression analysis of the two sets of data showed that water contents determined by a microwave oven were highly correlated with those determined by a conventional oven. Correlation coefficients were above 0.999 for all clay-sand mixtures. It may be concluded that microwave oven can be used for quick determination of water content.
