• The crystal rotation method is commonly used to measure the pretilt angle in liquid crystal cells, while the measurable range of the pretilt angle is limited. We propose a new optical measurement method without the limitation. In the new method, the pretilt angle is determined only by obtaining the ordinary or extraordinary wave direction for the liquid crystal cells.
