Hydrogen is one of the most important key materials in the field of chemical industry and is produced more than several billions m^3/day all over the world using conventional catalyst technologies from petroleum and natural gas. So, hydrogen production for general chemicals is already established. But conventional catalyst technologies could not fulfill the requirements for reforming system for fuel cells (fuel cell reformer) because fuel cell reformer must fulfill specific needs such as compactness, quick start and quick response, which are not required by conventional reforming system. Therefore, problems that cannot be solved by conventional catalyst technologies have been pointed out. Recent development of catalyst technologies for fuel cell reformer is remarkable and it surely sustains a movement of realization of fuel cell as a system. Main subject of this paper is on the advanced steam reforming system for fuel cell that has given a large contribution to realization of PAFC and various catalysis technologies. In addition, current status of development of reforming system for PEFC including on board reforming system and reforming system for hydrogen station will be introduced.
