We present experimental results of pattern formation in a forced system of coupled cellular oscillators. The response of spatially distributed cultured cardiac cells to a periodic forcing of electrical stimulation is examined by fluorescent methods. We show that a periodic forcing can lead to the coexistence of 2:1 and 1:1 synchronization modes within the cellular monolayer, and that the mode sites are distributed into spatially localized domains instead of being randomly spread over the monolayer.
