The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has accumulated knowledge and experience on spaceborne global positioning system (GPS) receivers through various programs from the first OREX (1994) to the recent ALOS (2006). GPS modernization will add new civil codes on the L2 and L5 frequency bands. The first Block IIR-M satellite which transmits the new L2C signal was launched and it was declared fully operational for GPS users in December 2005. JAXA has now developed the spaceborne GPS receiver prototype with new L2C signal tracking capability. This paper discusses the design and the preliminary report of the real signal tracking demonstration.
