The exploration and the utilization to the deep space are all along the dreams of human beings. Besides the technologies of launching and controlling to the explorer, Deep space communications play an important role in deep space exploration. Compared with common terra and satellite communications, Deep-space communications presents more challenging environment for data communication, such as long distance, very low signal noise ration, high signal propagation delays and data corruption rates, asymmetric bandwidth and so on. As a result, a new joint source channel coding method for reliable transmission of interferential multi-spectral image over deep space is proposed in this paper. The characteristic of the bit stream of improved embedded image source coding is analyzed, then unequal error protection of variable rate Turbo and LDPC code is applied to them according to relatively importance of the bit stream. A variable parameter AWGN (VPAWGN) model for deep space is set up. The simulation results show that the proposed method can achieve better performance compared to previous method.
