With the purpose of finding out the proper way how to improve condition, especially nutrition of the patients who received partial or total gastrectomy, we investigated clinical data over 40 cases before, during and afters the operation, at the first surgical clinic of Chiba University Hospital. Ten of them were digestive ulcer and the other were gastric cancer. Through direct dialogue with patients, cases were inquired by Miss Kimura. Sixteen cases were pursued after their rehabilitation. The results were as follows : 1) In the case of digestive ulcer, recovery from the gastrectomy occured very early and the routine direction concerning diet in the clinic was sufficient. 2) In the case of cancer, post-gastrectomic recovery was very slow from all the point of view and for the first 3 months, rational control of nutrition was very required. 3) This control of nutrition was also necessary for totally gastrectomized group. We concluded that the prognosis of gastrectomized cases depended on the method of operation and the disease itself and the key of recovery was based by the grade of dietary ingredients under the supervision of alimentary control schedule.
