Leaf-rolling Sawflies of the Subfamily Pamphiliinae (Hymenoptera, Pamphiliidae) in Eastern Asia : A Preliminary Review(Part Two Natural History Studies)

Current knowledge of the eastern Asian fauna of the leaf-rolling sawfly subfamily Pamphiliinae is summarized with a historical review of the systematic and faunistic studies. Of about 160 species in six genera of the pamphiliines recorded in the world, 102 species of four genera are known to occur in this area (eastern Siberia, the Russian Far East, Korea, Japan, China, the Himalayas, northern Myanmar and Thailand). A total of 51 species of four genera have been recorded from Japan (4 Neurotoma, 1 Chrysolyda, 10 Onycholyda, 36 Pamphilius), 41 species of four genera from Korea (5 Neurotoma, 1 Chrysolyda, 6 Onycholyda, 29 Pamphilius), 29 species of four genera from Primorskij kraj (2 Neurotoma, 1 Chrysolyda, 5 Onycholyda, 21 Pamphilius), and 22 species of three genera from China (3 Neurotoma, 10 Onycholyda, 9 Pamphilius). The Japanese pamphiliine fauna is considered fairly well known, but the pamphiliine fauna of the other vast areas of eastern Asia, which is apparently most diversified, has not been well explored. It is estimated that the number of the pamphiliine species may eventually reach 60 in each of Korea and Primorskij kraj and 100 in China.
