• According to Japanese belief, Buddhist scriptures say that women are not entitled to achieve buddhahood. However, no such mention is found in Buddhist literature. Minds transmigrate, but bodies do not. As minds are neither masculine nor feminine, it is impossible to assert whether or not women are entitled to achieve buddhahood. The Japanese belief has resulted from a misreading of the Fa-hua-ching (法華經) and the Wu-liang-shou-ching (無量壽經).
