The case of an aged patient with compound handicap and remaining tri-extremities disorder of one of the lower extremities, and who had serious left hemiplegia induced by cerebral infarction and the amputation of right forearm as an antecedent disorder is reviewed. The patient could be self dependent by attempting to adaptat to specific newly devised braces such as a gripping receptacle with a hook, T-cane with an inserting receptacle and a brace for a short leg. The invention of these braces enabled independent walking at will with improved QOL. Besides, in the case of a patient with tri-extremities disorder of the upper extremities induced by antecedent paralysis of both lower extremities due to Chariot-Marie-Tooth disease and left hemiplegia accompanied with cerebral bleeding, a one-hand-driving wheelchair enabled his ADL to be self-controlled and his QOL to be improved. Between the two types of tri-extremities disorder the case involving the upper extremities was easier to deal with because of the higher possibility for self-controlling of ADL. Further, considering the braces and wheelchair for such serious compound handicap, in order to improve QOL a contrivance for self administered fitting and disconnecting himself is necessary. This enables the patient to use his brace and wheelchair at will. Hence, in order to affix and use at will a precise evaluation of the patient's residual abilities and on going improvement of mechanical properties of braces and wheelchairs and their elaborate contrivance must be made to contribute to further development of QOL in the disabled.
