Stanley Fish is against all theories, narratology explicitly included; they are, according to him, deprivations of reading in favor of objectivity based on "theoretical machine." I argue in this article that Dorrit Cohn's narratological theory of the presentation of consciousness in fiction is compatible with Fishean reading. Her "narratological" reading includes her "responses" to the text; her "narratological" reading could contribute to "her" response criticism. Fishean response criticism can encompass all theoretical insights, because all theories are obliged to appear as readers' responses in the process of reading. I present my version of reader response criticism of "Bliss." Although I have learned much from narratologists such as Dorrit Cohn, Gerald Prince, Wallace Martin, Mieke Bal, in my reading of the story I try to avoid their predilection toward scientific objectivity and exemplify readers' responses to the text in the subjectivity of the readers. Through my reading experience of the form of Mansfield's text, I was manipulated by the presence of the ideological and feminist Mansfield. Through the experience of the textual from, the implied author, "implied" I mean "by me," exploits and directs my reading experience.
