Can infant recognize other's intention of communication? 14 infants aged from 3 to 11monts were shown their videotaped mother. They smiled more to their mother who talked with intention to communicate to their baby, than to mother who talked without such intention. There was no difference in looking between infants who were presented two types of talking by mother. Results in this experiments showed that infant could recognize other's intention to communicate from, very earlier age than usually assumed, and even when it was videotaped talking and even when they could not understand what was told. This means that infant has ability to have basis for social relationship necessary for developing verbal communication.
