Brandeis said, "Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman." He adovocated publicity as a remedey for the Money Trust, and required a full disclosure to the investor of the amount of commissions and profits paid; and not only would investors be put on their guard, but bankers' compensation would tend to adjust itself automatically to what was fair and reasonable. In this article, I inquire into his thought of publicity in the context of "Regulating Competition." He thought that regulation was essential to the preservation and development of competition, just as it is necessary to the preservation and best development of liberty. The right to competition had to be limited in order to preserve it. Publicity was necessary to the policy of regulated competition.
