In order to get the sound internal quality of products in the heavy ingot forging, it is important to eliminate internal microcavities of initial ingots by the forging process such as upsetting and stretching. The closing behaviour of cavities have been investigated in the upsetting tests using plasticin and hot steel blocks with penetrating holes in there centers to compare the closing behaviours of the both materials and comfirm the reliability of the using plasticin as the simulation model of hot steel. The closing characteristics of the plasticin and the hot steel indicates the same closing tendency by selecting a kind of lubricants : calcium carbonate and talcum. It is concluded that plasticin model is reliable as the useful experimental method of the simulation of internal cavities behaviour in the hot heavy ingot forging.
