It is common to claim that the teaching of the vapor pressure is extremely difficult due to a lack of appropriate instructional materials. This in turn is very likely to lead to a lock-step type teaching, in which the students' participation is kept to a minimum. The present paper is a report of developing the material using PC and the sensor in chemistry courses for senior high school level students in Japan. The materials proved to be successful in the following three ways. First, the device helped students successfully draw a vapor pressure curve thanks to the machine which could easily be manipulated. Second, the device helped students understand not only the phenomenon of the vapor pressure per se, but also the theory underlying it. Third, it was found that the material could potentially be used not only for instruction at a formal educational setting, but for extra-curricular activities. In addition to these, it was suggested that the material could be helpful for students to develop their inquiring mind. The paper concludes with several suggestions for using the material effectively.
