Until 1975, it would appear that the general view was that the illness of imbecility among aged persons was beyond medical improvement mainly due to a lack of emphasis on the importance of care treatment. However in later years, many people came to express wide interests regarding the disease, and as a result, concrete steps have been advanced on care treatment. Today, although there may be little hope for improvement on the patient's brain structure, experience has shown that with proper care, the patient's general condition could vastly improved. In this paper, I wish to cite some cases of five-to-nine aged-persons involved in the Group Home, where the subjects live and do things together under one roof. It is well-known that their general condition keep improving, through a combination of doing light-household chores, resulting to social acquaintances. This writer also studied reports concerning some women suffering from Alzheimer's Disease who were confined in the hospital, where the subjects did almost nothing by themselves. The same subjects were moved from the hospital to the Group Home, with a vastly different environment. Unlike the hospital, subjects in the Group Home had to do light household work, depending on one's limitations. Performance data shows that the ranking needs of the same subjects came down from "three to one". One glaring example was the case of a male patient diagnosed with cerebral apoplexy. In the hospital, the male patient was totally-cared for including staff changing his diapers. Weeks after moving him to the Group Home, he was able to perform some basic functions like walking with a cane unassisted and going to the toilet unattended on daytime all by himself. His over-all personality also changed due to social exposure, he was seen talking with the staff and other patients.
