The aim of this thesis is to explain the difference between the types of "Apple orchard" and "A boy of one-sided body", since both of them are to be categorized as AT301, according to the classified catalog of Aarne and Thompson, but these are recognized as different types in Iran. Firstly, by analyzing motives of eight folktales of "Apple orchard" and five folktales of "A boy of one-sided body" in detail, each standard type of these two folktales could be shown. Secondly, a careful comparison between the two standard types makes it clear that the difference between those two is that the main characters are portraved as "a hero" or as "a clown." Furthermore, it could be shown that the classification of "a type of a hero" and "a type of a clown" applies to Iranian magic tales, in which a boy plays a leading part. It is concluded that the difference between the types of "Apple orchard" and "A boy of onesided body" is similar to that of "a type of a hero" and "a type of a clown" Iranian magic tales in general, in which tales a boy is the main character.
