Taiwan was peculiar space of diplomacy, where Great Powers had performed diplomatic activities holding vested rights of commerce and economy. In this article, I considered what was outstanding questions about diplomacy concerning Taiwan immediately after taking possesion of Taiwan by Japan. European Powers, especially Britain and Germany, had aimed maintaining commercial and economic rigths in Taiwan, but the Government-General of Taiwan and Japanese Government had tried to limit some rights of foreignors, for example, to reside freely, or to run a camphor business. In this consequence, opposition between European Powers and Japan arose from commercial or economic problems, diplomatic activities by both side had actively performed. These economic characteristics of diplomacy concerning Taiwan included great importance to considering international relation not only about Taiwan but Far East.
